Once Upon A Time In Eastside
For this week’s post we decided to do something a little different and travel further North than we usually do…to a beautiful and historic area located in Rhode Island’s capital. The Eastside of Providence is filled with so much art, history and culture making it an easy decision for us to expand our realty search scope beyond our usual coastal neighborhoods. The house that stood out to us really embodied what one would expect when driving through the Eastside BUT with its own unique characteristics that set it apart. The main design quality that we wanted to focus on with this home is the wide range of spaces you get when walking through out it. On the outside, this house looks as though you transported straight into a storybook with its beautiful stone exterior and then, as you walk inside it is as though each space is its own home with its different aesthetic and design style, yet working nicely all together.
Unique Rooms
These three featured spaces are perfect examples of the distinctiveness that the home offers. The first aesthetic you are welcomed with upon entering is quite the opposite of what you saw when driving up to the house, but in an exciting way. The tile work, window detailing, and pop of color with white balance gives you some modern-retro vibes that are refreshing and excite you to explore the rest of the home. This entry vestibule is its own divided space which is then followed by your more traditional entrance foyer that guides you into the living and dining spaces of the home. Next we have this beautiful floor to ceiling wood enveloping space. The details in the built-ins, the drop down ceiling design, and how the wood color of the floor, walls, and ceiling all blend so seamlessly together are what make this space so intricate and stunning. The space is designed in a way that is adaptable to different styles depending on one’s taste…you can go the more traditional route with the furnishing or you can give it a mid-century modern aesthetic, the space is a gorgeous blank wood box that can be designed further to make it your space. Lastly, we have the casual dining and kitchen dividing wall that ties back to the exterior of the house. It seems as though there might have been an extension to this house at some point and the designer decided to preserve the wall in this space to have a nice transition between the old and new…or they designed this wall to make it seem this way. Either way, we love it! Preservation in design work is not an easy thing to accomplish and should be appreciated when executed nicely.
Spacious Rooms
The common areas and bedrooms have such generous sizes to them that they will easily accommodate almost anyone that moves into this home. They are not too big where the spaces can seem cold and divided…they are just the right size where you can still design the space to feel cozy and homey (or modern and clean…whatever your style of choice is) but without having the suffocating clutter. These spacious rooms are especially perfect if you are the type that enjoys furniture pieces or collecting home decor or that has kids and need the extra space for them to play!
Sun Rooms
You got to love a home that has the opportunity for natural sun light to shine in! Light fixtures are fun and can be very beautiful, but there is nothing like the way natural light illuminates a space. This home has multiple sun rooms that seem like the perfect place to enjoy breakfast or afternoon tea or read a book or play board games with your siblings…basically to just spend all of your time in! Even when you are on your way to one of these rooms, you get the same type of exposure with the skylight bringing in sunlight to the stairwell. Also, the house is surrounded with large trees that provide a nice view, on top of the great lighting.
