Deciding what to do with all the blank wall space in a home can often be the hardest part of decorating. Your walls are a place for you to showcase meaningful art, decor, treasured photos, and more. Finding a balance between chic and over cluttered can be tricky- this is why we often suggest incorporating a gallery wall on one designated wall in your home. A gallery wall is the perfect way to display a variety of items in a trendy, eye catching way.

The best part about gallery walls is that there are virtually no real “rules”- you can play with negative space, layout, design elements, and dimension to your hearts content. However, in order to ensure a cohesive + finished look, we do have a few tips!

  1. Have a plan

If possible, make sure you have all of your gallery wall elements on hand before you reach for the hammer. This way, you can map out your placement- we strongly advise that you use painter’s tape to emulate each piece on the wall prior to hanging. While this does add an extra step, it also ensures that you don’t end up with unsightly nail holes or paintings hung unevenly.

  2. Start from the center

Ground your space with a large piece in the middle and work your way out, for a foolproof layout that’s balanced and aesthetically pleasing.

  3. Stick to the theme

While gallery walls certainly leave room to be creative and incorporate a variety of elements, be sure that each piece adheres to the same theme- whether it be color, topic, etc. This will ensure a cohesive end result.

  4. Be creative

With that being said, color outside the lines a bit! A gallery wall is a statement- showcase your personal style with paintings, plants, antique finds, textured trinkets, family photos- the options are endless.

  5. Keep spacing in mind

There is no right or wrong when it comes to gallery wall composition. However, for foolproof execution, make sure each piece is evenly spaced to guarantee balance and order.
