Ted Hood - Sailing & Design Icon, 1927-2013

R.I.P. Ted Hood -My mentor.

I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside Ted, ashis designer for four years; and humbled to have been his last. I owe a lot toTed. He is the person who opened the door for me and welcomed me into the yachtingcommunity.

Ted Hood is perhaps best known for his sailing accomplishments, having won The America’s Cup title sailing “Courageous” in1974, along with “Independence” and “Nefertiti”. He also won titles in theNewport-Bermuda race, SORC, and the Mallory Cup. Ted began his career as a sailmaker at age thirteen and founded Hood Sailmakers in 1955, as well as HoodYacht Systems. He later tackled a career in yacht design and founded LittleHarbor Yachts in the eighties. During this time he also purchased &transformed the WWII navy fuel depot in Portsmouth, RI into a marina complex, then known as Little Harbor Marine. In 1999 he founded Ted Hood Yachts where he continued his work and design until late last year.
